The Bent Pyramid at Dahshur is the best-preserved Old Kingdom pyramid in Egypt, retaining most of its original Tura limestone casing — a gleaming white surface that once covered all Egyptian pyramids. Built for Sneferu around 2600 BCE, it rises 105 meters with a dramatic change in angle at 47 meters: the lower section ascends at 54°27', while the upper section shifts abruptly to 43°22'. This mid-construction correction — likely responding to structural stress or the catastrophic collapse at nearby Meidum — documents Egypt's engineers solving problems in real time. The pyramid has two entrances (north and west) leading to two separate internal chambers, unique among Egyptian pyramids. At Giza bearing 341.03° and 22.2 km from the Great Pyramid, the Bent Pyramid is Sneferu's architectural laboratory — the transitional form between step pyramids and the true geometric perfection he would achieve at the Red Pyramid just two kilometers to the north.
