A ruined pyramid at the necropolis of Dahshur South, built during the early Thirteenth Dynasty (c. 1793 BCE). Ameny Qemau was one of the early pharaohs of a turbulent period when central authority was fragmenting. His pyramid, discovered in 1957, contained a quartzite sarcophagus with the king's name — one of the few identifiable royal burials from this obscure dynasty. The pyramid's modest scale reflects the declining resources available to late Middle Kingdom rulers.
