Berme Road Park Quarry — Ellenville, NY, is an abandoned bluestone and conglomerate quarry on the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, New York, now incorporated into Berme Road Park along the Delaware & Hudson Canal Heritage Corridor. The Shawangunk conglomerate exposed in its working faces is a Silurian quartz-pebble sandstone, deposited around 420 million years ago and tilted to its current near-vertical attitude during the Acadian and Alleghenian orogenies. The quarry was worked from the mid-19th century into the early 20th, supplying paving block and building stone shipped south by canal and rail to New York City. Ice Caves Mountain and the Sam's Point Preserve sit immediately above on the same ridge, and the Berme Road Trail follows the old canal towpath at the foot of the cliff.
The cut faces have been weathering for a century, and the joint planes drop blocks the size of cars into the talus on their own schedule.
