The Niuheliang Pyramidal Structure is the earliest known pyramidal construction in China, part of a Hongshan culture Neolithic ceremonial complex dating to approximately 3500 BCE. The site contains the famous Goddess Temple with its life-sized painted clay female face — among the oldest monumental sculpture in East Asia. Jade burial objects including coiled dragons (zhulong) suggest a sophisticated cosmological system. At 292.52° Giza bearing across 7,740 km, Niuheliang is the northeasternmost Chinese pyramid, built by a culture whose traditions may have seeded later Chinese civilization.
