One of the most remote inhabited islands on Earth — 3,700 kilometers from Chile, 2,075 kilometers from the nearest inhabited island (Pitcairn). The Rapa Nui people carved and erected nearly 1,000 moai statues between 1250 and 1500 CE, averaging 4 meters tall and 12.5 tons each — the largest standing moai reaches 10 meters and 82 tons. The statues were positioned on stone platforms (ahu) ringing the coastline, all facing inland — watching over the island rather than the sea. The quarry at Rano Raraku contains 397 incomplete moai, suggesting work stopped suddenly. The island sits as a Pacific grid anchor point, and the precise placement of moai on electromagnetic nodes has been documented by geophysical surveys.
