The Pyramid of Meritites IV at South Saqqara, part of the extensive Pepi I complex, belongs to a queen whose name connects her to the great Meritites dynasty of the 4th Dynasty — over two centuries earlier. The substructure is decorated with the queen's full titulary, and fragments of Pyramid Texts were found on wooden planks rather than carved in stone — a unique medium that suggests either haste or experimental technique. At Giza bearing 330.21° and 16.1 km from the Great Pyramid, Meritites IV's pyramid is one of the six queens' pyramids discovered by the French Archaeological Mission in the Pepi I necropolis. The use of wooden surfaces for sacred texts reveals the practical constraints of equipping multiple royal burials simultaneously, while the texts themselves — among the few found outside stone walls — demonstrate that the magical protection of the Pyramid Texts was considered essential regardless of the medium.
