The White Pyramid at Dahshur, built by Amenemhat II around 1920 BCE, takes its name from the white limestone casing that once covered its surface. The pyramid itself is severely ruined — its core of sand-filled compartments, once retained by stone walls, has largely collapsed. However, its valley temple yielded one of the most spectacular treasure discoveries in Egyptology: the "Tod Treasure" and the intact burials of Princesses Ita and Khnumet, complete with gold diadems, pectorals, and jewelry of extraordinary craftsmanship. At Giza bearing 336.16° and 21.1 km from the Great Pyramid, the White Pyramid continues the Dahshur necropolis tradition established by Sneferu 700 years earlier. Amenemhat II's reign saw increased trade with the Aegean and Levant, and Minoan-style artifacts found in the complex hint at the international connections that made the Middle Kingdom a cosmopolitan civilization.
