The Pyramid of Senusret III at Dahshur, built around 1850 BCE, is the monument of Egypt's greatest Middle Kingdom warrior-pharaoh — the king who conquered Nubia, established the fortress system at the Second Cataract, and was later deified as a god of the southern frontier. The complex includes seven queens' pyramids, the largest satellite group after Senusret I's nine. The tombs of Princesses Sit-Hathor and Merit, discovered in 1894, yielded some of the finest jewelry ever found in Egypt: gold pectorals inlaid with carnelian, turquoise, and lapis lazuli depicting the pharaoh's name in hieroglyphs of semi-precious stones. At Giza bearing 333.73° and 19.9 km from the Great Pyramid, the pyramid is notable because Senusret III also built a massive tomb complex at Abydos — raising the question of where he was actually buried. The Dahshur complex's elaborate underground passages include a hidden granite-lined burial chamber.
