The Pyramid of Khendjer at South Saqqara, built around 1740 BCE, belongs to the first confirmed ruler of Semitic origin to govern Egypt — his name means "boar" and appears in a cartouche with the throne name Userkare. The complex includes both an inner and outer enclosure wall and a satellite pyramid with its own subterranean chambers. The main burial chamber was constructed from a single quartzite block with an ingenious sand-lowering mechanism to seal the sarcophagus — a technique inherited from Amenemhat III's Hawara pyramid. At Giza bearing 332.15° and 18.5 km from the Great Pyramid, Khendjer's pyramid is one of the few 13th Dynasty monuments that was actually completed — most rulers of this turbulent period were too short-lived to finish their tombs. The pyramid's quartzite burial technology represents the peak of Middle Kingdom engineering sophistication, even as the dynasty itself was sliding toward the fragmentation of the Second Intermediate Period.
