The Pyramid of Iput II at South Saqqara is a queens' pyramid within the Pepi II complex, located west of Neith's larger pyramid. Like the other queens' pyramids of the late Old Kingdom, it contained Pyramid Texts — funerary spells that by this period had been extended from kings to their principal wives and mothers. At Giza bearing 333.96° and 17.3 km from the Great Pyramid, Iput II's monument is one of three queens' pyramids surrounding Pepi II's central pyramid, maintaining the radial arrangement established at Khufu's Giza complex three centuries earlier. The pyramid's modest size and construction quality reflect the declining resources of the late Old Kingdom. Its placement within the last major pyramid complex in Egyptian history gives it a poignant significance: the tradition of queens' pyramids, born at Giza, ends here on the southern edge of the Saqqara plateau.
