The pyramid of king Aspelta at Nuri, built for a Napatan ruler who reigned approximately 593–568 BCE — younger brother of Anlamani and one of the most fully documented kings of Kush. Original base 26 metres per side; original height around 22 metres. Excavated by George Reisner in 1916 and 1917. The substructure produced a granite sarcophagus 4 metres long inscribed with the king's name and titles, fragments of his canopic chest, and the Election Stela — a 2.5-metre granite inscription found in the temple of Amun at Gebel Barkal recording how Aspelta was chosen king through an oracular procedure performed by the priests of Amun, with the god's statue physically moved from one candidate to another to indicate the divine selection. The text is the most complete account of a Kushite royal succession ceremony surviving from antiquity.
A pyramid for a king whose election-by-oracle is documented in 154 lines of hieroglyphic granite, recovered intact from the temple where the procedure was performed.
