The world's most deliberate capital — designed from scratch by Oscar Niemeyer and Lúcio Costa in 1956 and inaugurated in just 41 months. The entire city plan is shaped like an airplane (or, as Costa originally drew it, a cross), replacing ancient serpent symbolism with modernist aeronautic geometry. Its 58.27° bearing to Giza nearly matches New York City's, placing both financial and political power on the same angular transmission line. The city has no street names — only coordinates — making it a pure geometric grid. The Cathedral of Brasilia uses 16 hyperboloid columns reaching upward like hands, and its interior is accessed by descending underground, inverting the traditional relationship between worship and sky.
