Structure II at Chicanná in southern Campeche, Mexico, also known as the Monster Mouth Temple, is a small but architecturally elaborate Late Classic pyramid built between approximately 700 and 850 CE in the Río Bec style. The structure's defining feature is its central doorway — framed by a fully sculpted stucco zoomorphic mask of the earth monster Itzamnaaj, with the entrance forming the open mouth of the deity. Worshippers physically walked into the jaws of a god to enter the inner sanctuary. Chicanná was a satellite community of the larger Becán to the north and was first documented by Jack Eaton in 1966 during the Tulane–National Geographic Society survey of the Río Bec region. The exterior masks have eroded but the central monster-mouth façade remains substantially intact.
Structure II is a building whose front door is the open mouth of a god, with the teeth still in place.
