Queens' pyramid 1 of Senusret I at el-Lisht, one of nine small queens' pyramids arranged in a row along the south side of the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret I (r. 1971–1926 BCE). Original base approximately 20 metres per side; original height around 16 metres at a steep slope. Excavated by the Metropolitan Museum's Egyptian expedition under Albert Lythgoe and Arthur Mace from 1906 onward and continued by Dieter Arnold from 1984. The substructure preserved a small vaulted burial chamber, a fragmentary sandstone sarcophagus, and a cache of broken canopic jars — the inscriptions on which had been deliberately erased in antiquity. The mortuary chapel on the east face produced no preserved cartouche.
The first of nine small queens' pyramids built simultaneously around the main royal pyramid of Senusret I — the largest concentration of queens' burials at any Twelfth-Dynasty royal complex, with the identity of every individual occupant lost to the same erasure.
