The satellite pyramid of Senusret I at el-Lisht, immediately south of the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret I (r. 1971–1926 BCE). Original base 21 metres per side; original height around 17 metres at the same 49° slope as the main pyramid. Excavated by the Metropolitan Museum's expedition from 1906 onward. The structure follows the standard Old and Middle Kingdom satellite pyramid template: a small ritual pyramid attached to the south face of the principal royal pyramid, with a substructure containing a granite-lined chamber and a shallow descending corridor — but no human burial, no canopic equipment, and no funerary goods. Function is debated: a ka pyramid for the king's spirit-double, a ceremonial substitute tomb, or a solar-cult installation are all proposed.
The Middle Kingdom continuation of an Old Kingdom architectural convention, in a complex where every functional element of the king's mortuary equipment had a ritual duplicate in a smaller pyramid at its side.
