El Peru-Waka' controlled a strategic position near the San Pedro Martir River within the Laguna del Tigre National Park, making it a critical pawn in the centuries-long rivalry between Tikal and Calakmul. The site has yielded extraordinary royal tombs, including warrior queen burials with jade masks and stingray spine bloodletting tools. Lady K'abel, a military governor of Waka' and daughter of Calakmul's king, held the supreme title 'Kaloomte' — outranking her own husband the king. At 50.37° bearing to Giza across 11,842 km, El Peru-Waka' occupies the western frontier of the Peten Maya energy corridor.
