Designed by I.M. Pei in 1984, the IBM Somers headquarters in Westchester County features a dramatic granite-and-glass crescent form set into a hillside — one of Pei's most sculptural corporate works. The complex sits at Giza bearing 58.09° on a radian line connecting Washington D.C., New York City, and extending to Brasília. Pei, who would later design the Louvre Pyramid (1989), the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, placed pyramid and crystalline geometries on four continents throughout his career. The Somers campus houses IBM Research, where quantum computing and artificial intelligence development continue a lineage stretching back to the company's tabulating machines that processed the 1890 U.S. Census. At 8,961 km from Giza, the building's sweeping arc faces southeast — directly toward the Pyramid Plateau across the Atlantic.
