A rare surviving medieval labyrinth occupying the Chapter House floor of Bayeux Cathedral — the same cathedral complex near which the Bayeux Tapestry was likely displayed. At 4 meters in diameter, this later medieval design is more modest than Chartres or Amiens but represents one of only a handful of authentic medieval cathedral labyrinths still in situ. Bayeux itself was one of the few Norman cities to survive World War II bombing intact. At 317.80° Giza bearing, the cathedral sits on the Aure River's limestone bed in Calvados, Normandy — the same geological formation that underlies the great Gothic cathedrals of the Paris Basin. The Chapter House placement — rather than the nave — suggests a contemplative rather than processional use.
