Containing the greatest collection of megalithic art in Western Europe — over 300 decorated stones surpassing even its famous neighbor Newgrange — Knowth's passage tomb complex dates to approximately 3200 BCE, making it older than the Egyptian pyramids. The main mound (67m diameter, 11m high) contains two passage graves oriented east and west, creating a dual-axis alignment unique among Irish passage tombs. The spiral, lozenge, and labyrinthine motifs carved on its kerb stones represent the earliest known labyrinthine thinking in the British Isles. At 322.08° Giza bearing, Knowth lies within the Bru na Boinne UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the Boyne River's meander creates a natural amphitheater for these 5,200-year-old structures.
