Tantamani's pyramid at El-Kurru marks the end of an era — he was the last pharaoh of the 25th Dynasty to be buried at this ancestral Kushite necropolis. After his reign (664-653 BCE), subsequent Kushite kings relocated their burials to Nuri, 25 km upstream. Tantamani launched the final Kushite attempt to reclaim Egypt, briefly taking Memphis before being driven back by the Assyrians under Ashurbanipal. His tomb's 357.27° Giza bearing mirrors the entire El-Kurru alignment — a near-meridian corridor that connected the southernmost extent of pharaonic pyramid building to its origin point at Giza across 1,287 km of Nile valley.
