Subsidiary cult-pyramid at the south face of the Pyramid of Khafre, designated G2-a. Base 21 metres per side, original height approximately 12 metres. The structure was extensively robbed in antiquity for its limestone facing; today only the lower courses survive. The pyramid's purpose is conventionally identified as a ritual or ka-pyramid associated with Khafre's funerary cult rather than an actual royal burial; the internal chamber is small and contained no sarcophagus. The structure aligns with Khafre's mortuary temple along the south-side processional axis of the Khafre complex. Excavations in 1858 by Auguste Mariette and again in 1909 by George Reisner cleared the area but failed to identify the pyramidion or the original casing thickness.
A small ritual pyramid built next to the second-largest building on Earth was robbed for its stone before any name could be assigned to its function.
