Sixth-Dynasty queen's pyramid at South Saqqara within the Pepi II funerary complex, built for Queen Wedjebten — consort of Pepi II and probable daughter of one of the late-Sixth-Dynasty viziers. Construction date approximately 2240 BCE. Excavated by Gustave Jéquier between 1926 and 1932. Original base 21 metres per side; original height around 13 metres. The substructure preserved a limestone burial chamber inscribed with Pyramid Texts on the west and north walls, a basalt sarcophagus emptied in antiquity, and a cache of broken alabaster vessels bearing the queen's name and titles. The mortuary chapel produced a granite false door and an offering table inscribed with the rare double title King's Wife and Companion of Horus. Her family origin links the royal house to the senior administrative class of Memphis — one of the last documented marriages of its kind before the Old Kingdom collapse.
A queen whose pyramid sits at the southern end of the last Old Kingdom royal cemetery, in a complex whose patron outlived nearly everyone he buried in it.
