The Pyramid of Amenemhat I at Lisht, built around 1975 BCE, inaugurated the Middle Kingdom pyramid tradition and the 12th Dynasty — Egypt's second golden age. Located 60 km south of Giza at bearing 348.96°, the pyramid originally rose to 55 meters but is now heavily eroded. Its most remarkable feature is its construction material: the builders systematically dismantled Old Kingdom monuments, reusing blocks from the pyramids and temples of Khufu, Khafre, Unas, and others. Blocks inscribed with Khufu's name have been found in Amenemhat I's core, creating a physical link between the Middle Kingdom and the Pyramid Age 600 years earlier. The deliberate recycling of sacred stone was not mere economy — it was a political act connecting the new dynasty to the legitimacy of the Old Kingdom's greatest builders. Amenemhat I was assassinated in a palace conspiracy, and his son Senusret I completed the complex.
