The Pyramid of Seila is one of seven small provincial step pyramids scattered along the Nile Valley, attributed to Sneferu or Huni of the late 3rd/early 4th Dynasty (c. 2600 BCE). Standing originally about 7 meters tall on a hilltop overlooking the Fayum depression, it contains no internal chambers or burial shafts — confirming it served a symbolic rather than funerary function. Two stelae bearing Sneferu's name were discovered at its base by Brigham Young University excavations in 1987, providing the only direct royal connection for any of the seven provincial pyramids. At Giza bearing 6.67° and 66.8 km from the Great Pyramid, Seila's position commands a panoramic view of the Fayum basin. The seven provincial pyramids (Seila, Zawyet el-Maiyitin, Sinki, el-Kula, Edfu, Elephantine, and possibly Athribis) are spaced along the Nile at intervals that suggest a territorial marking system — boundary stones on a royal scale.
