Queens Pyramid of Senusret I (6)

Queens' pyramid 6 of Senusret I at el-Lisht, sixth of nine small queens' pyramids in the row arranged around the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret I. Construction date approximately 1950 BCE. Original base approximately 20 metres per side; original height around 16 metres at a steep slope. Excavated by the Metropolitan Museum's expedition from 1906 onward. The substructure preserved a small vaulted burial chamber, a fragmentary sandstone sarcophagus, and broken canopic equipment with deliberately erased inscriptions. The associated mortuary chapel produced relief fragments showing offering scenes. The owner has not been identified.

One of nine queens' pyramids in a single architectural programme around a single king, in a row whose six middle pyramids are entirely interchangeable on the available evidence — distinguishable from each other only by their position in the line.
