Queens Pyramid of Senusret I (7)

Queens' pyramid 7 of Senusret I at el-Lisht, seventh of nine small queens' pyramids arranged around the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret I. Construction date approximately 1950 BCE. Original base approximately 20 metres per side; original height around 16 metres at a steep slope. Excavated by the Metropolitan Museum's expedition from 1906 onward. The substructure preserved a small vaulted burial chamber, an emptied sandstone sarcophagus, and the fragmentary courses of a mortuary chapel on the east face. No identifying inscription has been recovered. The complex of nine queens' pyramids of Senusret I is the largest such grouping at any Egyptian royal pyramid; the larger Sixth-Dynasty Pepi I complex at South Saqqara has only nine queens' pyramids of widely varying scale, while this row at Lisht is uniform throughout.
