Queens' pyramid 9 of Senusret I at el-Lisht, the ninth and last of the small queens' pyramids around the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret I. Construction date approximately 1950 BCE. Original base approximately 20 metres per side; original height around 16 metres at a steep slope. Excavated by the Metropolitan Museum's expedition from 1906 onward. The substructure preserved a small vaulted burial chamber and an emptied sandstone sarcophagus; no inscription identifying the occupant has been securely recovered. The mortuary chapel on the east face produced fragmentary offering scenes. As the last in the row of nine pyramids, this monument closes the architectural programme that the king commissioned simultaneously with his own pyramid — all ten structures (the king's plus nine queens') were built within the same single construction phase.
The ninth and final queen's pyramid in the largest uniform-template royal queens' cemetery of the Middle Kingdom.
