Queens Pyramid of Senusret III (1)

Queens' pyramid 1 of Senusret III at Dahshur, one of seven small queens' pyramids arranged in two rows around the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret III (r. 1878–1839 BCE). Original base approximately 17 metres per side; original height around 14 metres at a steep slope. Excavated by Jacques de Morgan in 1894 and re-examined by Dieter Arnold for the Metropolitan Museum from 1990 onward. The substructure preserved a small vaulted burial chamber, fragmentary canopic jars naming queen Khenmet-nefer-hedjet-Weret II — confirming her as the occupant — and a cache of jewellery including a gold pectoral with the cartouches of Senusret III. The mortuary chapel produced reliefs showing the queen offering before Osiris.

The first of seven queens' pyramids around the main royal pyramid of Senusret III, in the only Twelfth-Dynasty queens' complex at Dahshur whose principal occupants have been securely identified by name.
