Queens' pyramid 7 of Senusret III at Dahshur, seventh and last of the small queens' pyramids around the main pyramid of pharaoh Senusret III. Construction date approximately 1850 BCE. Original base approximately 17 metres per side; original height around 14 metres at a steep slope. Excavated by Dieter Arnold for the Metropolitan Museum from 1990 onward. The substructure preserved a small vaulted burial chamber and a sandstone sarcophagus broken open in antiquity. The occupant has not been securely identified — the canopic jars and any inscribed grave goods were removed in the same antiquity-period robbery that emptied the central pyramid of Senusret III itself.
The seventh queen of a complex whose central pyramid is empty and whose builder may not actually have been buried in it: Senusret III is now thought by most specialists to have been buried instead in his cenotaph complex at Abydos, leaving this Dahshur cemetery as a parallel mortuary installation rather than the king's actual resting place.
