The Painted Temple at Pachacamac preserves polychrome murals depicting fish, plants, and anthropomorphic figures in vivid reds, yellows, and greens — rare surviving examples of coastal Peruvian temple art. The temple housed the famous Pachacamac wooden idol (2.34m tall, radiocarbon dated 760-876 CE), a double-faced oracle figure that pilgrims traveled hundreds of miles to consult. Pachacamac was the supreme creator deity of the central coast, and the Spanish described this temple as the most important oracle in the Andes. At 62.36° Giza bearing, the site anchors the southern end of Lima's remarkable alignment of pre-Columbian pyramids.
