Pyramid Ku. 1 is the largest structure at El-Kurru yet appears never to have been used for burial — an architectural enigma in the royal necropolis of the Kushite 25th Dynasty. Its east-facing chapel overlooking the Nile suggests a ceremonial or solar function rather than funerary purpose. George Reisner excavated the site in 1918-1919, documenting the pyramid's anomalous emptiness. At 357.27° Giza bearing, it shares the near-meridian alignment of all El-Kurru structures. The purpose of an unoccupied royal pyramid invites comparison with cenotaphs in Egyptian tradition — symbolic tombs built to channel energy rather than house the dead.
