Bandurria, a 54-hectare coastal site near Huacho, Peru, may predate even Caral — with radiocarbon dates reaching 3200 BCE, making it a contender for the oldest monumental architecture in the Americas. The site features a sunken circular plaza and monumental stairways characteristic of the Norte Chico tradition. At 62.00° Giza bearing, Bandurria aligns with the Pleiades corridor threading through Peru's earliest ceremonial centers. Threatened by urban expansion and looting, the site was largely unknown until Paul Kosok photographed it aerially in 1941. Excavations led by Alejandro Chu have revealed the full extent of its monumental architecture, challenging Caral's claim as the sole cradle of Andean civilization.
