Choquequirao, the 'Cradle of Gold,' perches at 3,050m on a ridge above the Apurimac River gorge — accessible only by a two-day trek, keeping it one of the least-visited major Inca sites. Often called Machu Picchu's sister city, its 12 sectors spread across 1,800 hectares of terraces, temples, and residential compounds. Unique white stone llama mosaics adorn the terrace walls — decorative elements found nowhere else in the Inca world. Only 30% of the site has been excavated. At 62.50° Giza bearing across 12,081 km, Choquequirao occupies a mirror position to Machu Picchu within the Sacred Valley's geometric framework.
