Cuicuilco's circular pyramid is the oldest known pyramid structure in the Valley of Mexico, dating to approximately 800-600 BCE. Its distinctive round form — 110 meters in diameter and originally 25 meters tall — was partially engulfed by lava from the Xitle volcano eruption around 400 CE. The surviving structure rises from a frozen sea of black basalt, a geological time capsule. Cuicuilco preceded Teotihuacan as the dominant settlement in the Basin of Mexico. Its circular design suggests astronomical observatory function. The site's 45.16° Giza bearing links it to the corridor of Central Mexican sacred architecture.
