Templo Mayor was the sacred axis of the Aztec universe — twin pyramids rising 60 meters above the island city of Tenochtitlan, dedicated to Huitzilopochtli (war/sun god) and Tlaloc (rain god). Seven construction phases from 1325 to 1521 CE were built one over another. The Coyolxauhqui stone — a 3.25-meter carved disk of the dismembered moon goddess — was discovered at its base in 1978, triggering the excavation of this buried heart of Mexico City. Over 7,000 offerings have been recovered. At 45.15° Giza bearing, the temple anchored the Aztec cosmos at a point 12,365 km from the Great Pyramid.
