A 277-mile wound in the Earth's surface exposing 1.8 billion years of geological history — nearly half the age of the planet itself. The Vishnu Basement Rocks at the bottom are 1.7-1.8 billion years old, among the oldest exposed rock on Earth's surface. The Hopi believe the Sipapu — the emergence point where humanity climbed from the Third World into the Fourth — lies within the Canyon, near the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado rivers. The Canyon sits on the Nazca-Angkor great circle (0.21° deviation) at 32.53° to Giza. In 1909, the Arizona Gazette reported the discovery of Egyptian-style artifacts in a cave system within the Canyon — a story never confirmed but never debunked. The Canyon's acoustic properties are extraordinary: sounds carry for miles through the layered sandstone amphitheater.
