Monument Valley's iconic sandstone buttes — rising over 1,000 feet from the Colorado Plateau floor — are sacred to the Dine (Navajo) people, who call the valley Tse Bii Ndzisgaii ('Valley of the Rocks'). The iron oxide-rich Permian sandstone (the same De Chelly formation found at Sedona) creates the deep red coloring that makes this landscape instantly recognizable worldwide. Managed as a Navajo Tribal Park rather than a federal monument, the valley preserves indigenous sovereignty over its sacred geography. At 33.95° Giza bearing, Monument Valley sits on the Nazca-Angkor great circle with only 0.25° deviation — a geometric alignment connecting this Navajo sacred landscape to the planetary grid's most precisely surveyed corridor.
