Hamadab, just 3 km south of Meroe, was likely the headquarters of Prince Akinidad during the Kushite war against Augustan Rome around 24 BCE. Two hills measuring 200 by 250 meters preserve a temple dedicated to the warrior Queen Amanirenas — who according to Strabo marched an army to Syene (Aswan) and captured a bronze head of Augustus, burying it beneath a temple threshold as an act of ritual domination. That bronze head, now in the British Museum, is one of antiquity's most famous objects. At 350.31° bearing to Giza across 1,476 km on the Meroe energy cluster.
