Huaca del Dragon (Temple of the Dragon) — also called Huaca del Arco Iris (Rainbow Temple) — is a Chimu adobe pyramid near Chan Chan decorated with extraordinary bas-relief friezes depicting dragons, rainbows, and marine creatures. The two-level platform with ramp access preserves some of the finest surviving examples of Chimu architectural sculpture. At 60.89° Giza bearing, the site sits on the Pleiades corridor linking the Moche Valley's monumental complexes. The dragon/rainbow iconography represents Ai Apaec and the rainbow deity — figures connected to water, fertility, and the cosmic cycle. The reliefs were originally painted in vivid polychrome, making the temple a visual spectacle visible across the valley floor.
