Huaca Rajada yielded one of the most spectacular archaeological discoveries in the Americas — the 1987 excavation of the Lord of Sipan, a Moche warrior-priest buried with extraordinary gold, silver, copper, and turquoise regalia around 250 CE. The tomb's richness rivals Tutankhamun's. The lord was interred with two llamas, a dog, three women, two male warriors, and a child — a complete retinue for the afterlife. Three adobe pyramids mark the site. At 60.42° Giza bearing, Huaca Rajada's burial practices mirror Egyptian royal interment traditions across 12,379 km of ocean, with composite tombs of rulers, attendants, and precious metals sealed within pyramidal structures.
