Tucume's Huaca Larga is the largest adobe structure in South America — 700 meters long, 280 meters wide, and 30 meters tall. It anchors a complex of 26 major pyramids spread across 540 acres in the "Valley of the Pyramids," built successively by the Lambayeque (Sican), Chimu, and Inca civilizations from roughly 1000-1500 CE. Thor Heyerdahl conducted his final major excavation here in the 1990s, drawn by local legends of ancient seafarers. The sheer concentration of pyramidal forms in this valley surpasses any comparable cluster in the Americas. At 60.30° Giza bearing, Tucume's 26 pyramids form a density node along the Peruvian alignment corridor.
