Near Winslow, Arizona, Homolovi State Park preserves ancestral Hopi pueblo sites where thousands of petroglyphs record clan migrations and ceremonial knowledge. The labyrinth and spiral motifs found here connect to the Hopi's Tapuat (Mother Earth) symbol — one of the most spiritually significant designs in their cosmology. The pueblos were occupied from approximately 1260-1400 CE, serving as a staging area for migrations to the Hopi Mesas. At 328.17° Giza bearing, Homolovi sits on the Little Colorado River, whose turquoise-colored waters the Hopi consider a pathway to the underworld. The park's basalt and sandstone geology provides both the dark petroglyph canvases and the building materials for multi-room pueblo complexes.
