Poitiers Cathedral Labyrinth is a rock-carved labyrinth in Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The design is a classical 7circuit layout with 7 circuits, 8 walls, approximately 0.3 metres in diameter, built of rock carving. Documented age: Medieval (12th-13th century). Current condition: intact. A crudely engraved labyrinth line on the wall of the north aisle of Poitiers Cathedral — one of the few vertical (wall-mounted) labyrinths in any European church. Documentation sources: Kern 2000. A figure that resolves into a single unbroken line when traced from edge to centre and back. The labyrinth is one of several hundred sites of this type catalogued globally; each preserves the same unicursal walking-pattern with regional variation in scale, material, and date.
The labyrinth tradition spans at least 4,000 years of documented practice across northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the British Isles, North America, and the Indian subcontinent.
