Winnemucca Lake Petroglyphs is a labyrinth installation in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. The built of rock carving. Documented age: 10,500-14,800 years old (12,800 - 8,500 BC). Current condition: intact. The Winnemucca Lake petroglyphs, dated between 10,500 and 14,800 years before present, represent the oldest securely dated rock art in North America and among the oldest in the world. Documentation sources: Benson et al. 2013. A pattern with one entrance, one path, and no choices — repeated by unrelated cultures across thousands of years. The labyrinth is one of several hundred sites of this type catalogued globally; each preserves the same unicursal walking-pattern with regional variation in scale, material, and date.
The labyrinth tradition spans at least 4,000 years of documented practice across northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the British Isles, North America, and the Indian subcontinent.
