Leon Viejo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving the ruins of one of the earliest Spanish colonial settlements in the Americas, founded in 1524 by Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba at the foot of Momotombo volcano. The settlement overlays pre-Columbian occupation layers, creating a stratified record of indigenous and colonial cultures. Buried by volcanic ash and mudflows, Leon Viejo was rediscovered in 1967 — its colonial-era buildings preserved like a Central American Pompeii. The remains of founder Hernandez de Cordoba and the cruel governor Pedrarias Davila were excavated here. At 53.14° Giza bearing across 11,860 km.
