Los Naranjos, on the north shore of Lake Yojoa — Honduras's largest natural lake — represents one of the earliest settled communities in Honduras, with occupation beginning around 1000 BCE. The site sits within a rich ecological zone where lowland jungle meets highland forest, creating biodiversity that attracted permanent settlement millennia before the Maya florescence. Monumental earthworks and platform mounds surround ceremonial plazas. Now an eco-archaeological park, Los Naranjos preserves the junction between Mesoamerican and Intermediate Area cultural traditions. At 52.21° bearing to Giza across 11,782 km, marking the southern fringe of Maya influence.
