The Sedeinga pyramid complex is unique in the ancient world — over 80 miniature pyramids built not for royalty but for wealthy citizens of the Meroitic period, densely packed in a 30+ hectare necropolis. The smallest pyramids measure just 75 cm per side, creating an extraordinary landscape of closely spaced monuments. In 2018, excavations yielded the largest collection of Meroitic texts ever discovered at a single site, dramatically expanding knowledge of this still only partially deciphered script. At a 4.44° Giza bearing, Sedeinga sits almost due south of the Great Pyramid across 1,051 km — one of the closest near-meridian alignments in the entire Nile corridor.
