Tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England, connected to the mainland village of Marazion by a granite causeway exposed at low tide. The island rises to 70 metres and covers 23 hectares. A Benedictine monastery was established here in the 12th century as a daughter house of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy; the medieval church and the harbour predate Tudor fortification. The site lies on the same line of Saint Michael shrines (the “St Michael ley line”) running northeast across England through Glastonbury Tor, Avebury, and Bury St Edmunds — a geometric correspondence first measured by John Michell in The View Over Atlantis (1969). Geologically, the granite tor is a Cornubian batholith outcrop dated to ~270 million years ago.
A small granite cone in the Atlantic is the southwestern terminus of a line of Michael shrines that crosses England exactly along the May Day sunrise bearing.
