The Pyramid of Ibi at Saqqara is the only confirmed pyramid of the 8th Dynasty and the last pyramid built at Saqqara — a fitting end to 400 years of pyramid construction at this necropolis. Built around 2150 BCE, it is small (31.5 meters square) and poorly constructed from mudbrick and reused stone blocks, a stark contrast to the monumental works of the 4th through 6th Dynasties. Yet its burial chamber contains Pyramid Texts, maintaining the sacred tradition even as the kingdom fragmented. At Giza bearing 332.24° and 17.3 km from the Great Pyramid, Ibi's pyramid documents the collapse of centralized Egypt in physical form: a pharaoh who still claimed divine authority but could barely muster the resources to build a modest tomb. The 8th Dynasty ruled from Memphis but controlled little beyond the capital, and Ibi's cramped, poorly built pyramid is eloquent testimony to a civilization's twilight.
