The Pyramid of el-Kula, located near ancient Hierakonpolis (the "City of the Falcon") in Upper Egypt, is one of seven small provincial step pyramids dating to the late 3rd or early 4th Dynasty (c. 2600 BCE). Standing approximately 8 meters high on three steps, it has no substructure, no internal chambers, and no inscriptions — a pure geometric form without functional burial architecture. At Giza bearing 344.82° and 560 km from the Great Pyramid, its position near Hierakonpolis — the predynastic capital of Upper Egypt where the Narmer Palette was discovered — links it to one of the oldest power centers in Egyptian civilization. The pyramid's proximity to Nekhen (Hierakonpolis) and Nekheb (el-Kab) across the Nile, where the vulture goddess Nekhbet was worshipped, places it at the symbolic heart of Upper Egyptian identity. The seven provincial pyramids together trace the Nile from the Delta to the First Cataract.
